With so many different AI models available, it can be difficult to decide which one best suits your needs. It's no doubt that the 4 most powerful models are GPT-4o, Claude-3 Opus, Gemini Pro 1.5, and Llama-3. We will be discussing which one to use and when you should use one over another.

Individual Model Overviews

GPT-4o is OpenAI’s most powerful model yet. Praised for its multimodal capabilities such as text, audio, and images. Capable of image generation and visual understanding, GPT-4o sets itself apart from the rest. The most prominent limitation for GPT-4o being its model power, GPT-4o is significantly faster than its previous models but lacks a detailed understanding in certain areas due to its lighter architecture. Some other limitations being message limits, limitations in logic and reasoning, and the context window.

Claude-3 Opus is Anthropic's latest and most advanced language model, boasting significant improvements in performance, safety, and reliability over its competitors. Claude-3 Opus is known for its performance on highly complex tasks. It’s great at navigating open-ended prompts and has remarkable fluency and human-like understanding. The major limitations with Claude-3 Opus are the message limits, coding errors, and context loss. Opus is unable to perform certain coding tasks and will return errors, unlike GPT-4o.

Gemini Pro 1.5, made by Google, is ideal for developers and users looking for a powerful and versatile model for data intensive and complex tasks. Known for its ridiculously long context window of 1 million tokens, almost 8 times as much as GPT-4o. Gemini also excels in image understanding, audio analysis, and also has uses for email management and the entire google workspace. Some limitations are that the free tier is very limited, with a limit of 2 requests per minute, and 50 per day. While the large context window is impressive, its performance may degrade if prompts approach the size limit.

Llama-3, built by Meta, represents a significant step forward in LLM technology. It's a powerful tool for sparking creative ideas, generating drafts in various text formats, and enhancing real-time language translation. Fun fact: Llama 3 was trained on a dataset 7 times larger than Llama 2, which just shows the significant jump made by Meta. Llama 3 lacks the ability to self reflect, which can lead to inaccuracies. With other small downsides like data privacy and security concerns.
